MP launches second annual report

19 October 2007

Files/stpMP Shahid Malik officially launched his second annual report to constituents at St. Paulinus Junior & Infant School last week.

Some 30,000 doormats in households across the constituency will have received copies of 'Our Community Matters' over the last two weeks. The MP for Dewsbury and Mirfield said that his magazine was just one of the ways in which he kept local people informed of the work he does on their behalf.

Shahid said: "The feedback from the magazine has been very positive indeed and I have assured people that it's something that I will continue to produce on an annual basis to keep people to update people on my constituency activities but also to allow them to get involved."

Mr Malik said: "Many of the comments I have received have been about my commitment to young people, older people and democracy with people commending me on taking more of my constituents to Parliament, well over 1300, than any other MP in the country."

The MP's constituency office has dealt with more than 2000 cases on behalf of local people resulting in a saving to constituents of almost £200,000 since May 2005.

Shahid said that St Paulinus was the perfect place to launch the Magazine with help from this years school council, who like himself were elected, but especially because the cover of the magazine has a photo of his visit to when he met last years school council.

Shahid said: "St Paulinus is a great school and the Headteacher Mrs Drake seems to have embedded an excellent learning ethos and environment - it's truly a pleasure to pop in."
