Shahid reaches casework milestone

11 October 2007

Files/avrilLocal MP Shahid Malik reached a milestone last week when he opened the file on his 2000th piece of casework on behalf of constituents in Dewsbury and Mirfield.

Local woman Avril Buckley was involved in an ongoing dispute with Kirklees Council and following Mr Malik's intervention a settlement was agreed.

Avril Buckley said: "For more than a decade I've been trying to resolve this issue with the council and it got me nowhere. Shahid's involvement worked wonders and within no time the matter was resolved and I had the outcome I'd been looking for."

Over the past twelve months Mr Malik has held 46 surgeries and coffee mornings throughout the constituency and has dealt with a growing amount of casework since moving his constituency office to a shop front on Daisy Hill.

The MP has held coffee mornings in Mirfield, Westborough, Ashworth, Thornhill, Thornhill Lees, Shaw Cross, Ravensthorpe, Westtown, Chickenley and Earlsheaton.

In August Mr Malik added monthly surgeries in Mirfield to his diary making it easier than ever for people in the town to talk to their MP face to face. These are held in addition to existing surgeries at Dewsbury ASDA and the twice-monthly private advice sessions at Mr Malik's Daisy Hill office.

The constituency office at 60 Daisy Hill is open throughout the week for constituents who would like assistance on a variety if issues which typically range from housing and taxation problems through to benefits and bill queries.

Shahid said that no two cases were the same: "The nature of the casework varies from day to day and it's safe to say that no two issues are identical. It's my job to ensure that people in Dewsbury and Mirfield get the very best representation which is why I spend so much time and effort getting results for them."

Residents in Dewsbury and Mirfield who would like Mr Malik's assistance on any matter can contact him by phone on 01924 465432 or by email maliks@parliament.uk.
