Rotary Club visits Westminster with MP

11 December 2007

Files/Rotary Sixty members of the Rotary Club took a trip to Westminster and the Houses of Parliament for a guided tour given by local MP Shahid Malik. They began with a question and answer session in the Jubilee room and followed with a detailed tour, which included special areas such as the St Mary's Chapel - the site of a number of MPs' weddings - that are only open to the public when accompanied by an MP.

When he was elected back in May 2005, Shahid promised to ‘open the doors of democracy' and has since shown his dedication to the pledge by taking over two thousand people to Westminster, from school pupils to the Dewsbury Pensioners' Association; more than any other MP.

Speaking on behalf of the Club, Trish Makepeace said that "the trip was excellent", and that "everyone enjoyed the whole day. We even got to go into the Crypt, which people aren't normally allowed to, so everyone was delighted. Shahid was a perfect host."
