 During a very short space of time Shahid has already left an impression on Westminster and won the praise of numerous fellow MPs and political journalists.

In 2005 Shahid won the House Magazine Maiden Speech Award earning him the respect of colleagues and constituents alike. Shahid was also the only MP from the 2005 intake to be appointed to the influential Home Affairs Select Committee.

In March 2006 Shahid was appointed by the NSPCC as their Parliamentary Ambassador working to ensure that the safety of children remains at the top of the agenda.
